Engineering Science (ES)

The Bachelor's program in Engineering Science (ES) is currently the only engineering program at TUHH which can be studied in English. Thereby, similar to the program in General Engineering Science, the basic concept of ES is to provide the students with the broadest possible basic knowledge of all central engineering disciplines. Thus, ES is not only an international but also an interdisciplinary Bachelor's program. 
Learning and understanding the engineering basics from the various disciplines is demanding. However, it enables graduates to quickly familiarize themselves with new tasks from different areas and mediate between the engineering disciplines.

The ES program is structured as follows to achieve the goal of engineering education being as broad as possible: First, the students learn the basics of all central engineering disciplines in the so-called core subjects. In addition to the timelessly valid scientific principles and the mathematical methods of engineering, this also includes the fundamental laws and working methods as well as the technological and business principles of the central engineering sciences. The core subjects make up around half of the curriculum.

In addition to the core subjects, students must choose one of a total of 9 specializations (majors) after the first three semesters of study. There are the following choices:

• Biomedical Engineering (bilingual English & German)
• Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering (English)
• Data Science (English)
• Electrical Engineering (bilingual English & German)
• Information and Communication Systems (English)
• Mechanical Engineering (bilingual English & German)
• Mechanical Engineering and Management (English)
• Mechatronics (English)

Another unique feature of ES is the comparatively large proportion of practical work. The course includes a basic internship, in which the students get to know typical manufacturing processes and learn how to use tools. The basic internship is ideally completed before the start of the course. On the other hand, a 12-week advanced internship in the last semester serves to experience the everyday working life of qualified engineers and get insight into possible future areas of responsibility such as design, calculation, quality control, assembly planning, maintenance, or development. The advanced internship is planned in the area of ​​the chosen specialization.

The bachelor thesis in the 7. semester rounds off your studies. You can write your bachelor thesis either at a university-internal research institute or within an external company or institute.

Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany, with 1.9 million inhabitants. Hamburg is one of the most dynamic regions in Europe with the best growth prospects. It is a vibrant metropolis with a high quality of life. Hamburg has over 40 theatres, 60 museums, and 100 music venues and clubs. Economically and culturally, Hamburg is also the center of Northern Germany. We have many famous places to visit, such as the popular Elbphilharmonie, the Speicherstadt, and many international musicals, e.g., The Lion King. Besides, Hamburg is known for its exciting nightlife scene. Bar and clubs are almost clumped on the Reeperbahn and Sternschanze, where one can enjoy the night and have a direct metro link from the TUHH campus.

You can apply annually for the winter semester from June 1st to July 15th. For the application, you need a university entrance qualification. We conduct an online application procedure.

Information for international students: As an international student, you need a visa and proof of sufficient funds. The visa process can take several months. We therefore recommend applying for a visa in good time. You can usually make an appointment to apply for a visa before receiving the letter of admission. But you definitely need the letter of admission for the appointment.
