Language Cafes

What is a Language Cafe?

The idea is quite simple: At a Language Café you can just drop by, chat with each other in a nice atmosphere and at the same time polish up your language skills, make new friends and find out more about other cultures. The meetings are led by native speakers.

In each semester we offer language cafes in many different languages face-to-face and/or online.

Students from our ECIU partner universities are very welcome to join the online language cafés as participants or language guides. Please contact us.

The language cafes are expected to start in mid-April and mid-October. The meetings do not take place on holidays and during the lecture-free period.

Please note that no ECTS points can be credited.

We are looking for Language Guides. Join us!

Are you interested in supporting the language cafe program? Then join our native speakers‘ team and take over a (virtual) table for your language. We are looking for people who speak languages like German, English, Spanish, French or Italian. Other languages are also very welcome!

What do you get out of it? You will gain skills in moderating groups and if you participate regularly as a language guide (at least 8 times), you will receive a confirmation of your voluntary commitment. In the best case, there are several language guides per language, so you can take turns. Students from ECIU partner universities are also welcome to volunteer as language guides!

The activity as a language guide is recognised for the Certificate Intercultural Competence.

You are interested? Further information can be found in our guideline. For your contribution to internationalisation we offer a confirmation of your voluntary work.
