Basic Internship (Grundpraktikum)

To be admitted to many of the bachelor degree courses at TU Hamburg you need to provide evidence of practical experience, the so-called “Grundpraktikum” (basic internship) of ten weeks. Please note that there is a difference between the basic internship and the so-called "Fachpraktikum" (subject-specific internship) that is part of studies for some bachelor degree courses. You don’t need to do a basic internship to be admitted to the following the bachelor degree courses: Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, Computer Science (formerly: Computational Informatics), Data Science, Green Technologies, and Technomathematics.

Due to the fact that the basic internship is part of the admissions criteria and therefore not part of your studies at TU Hamburg, you are not awareded credit points once you have finished it. While the evidence that you have finished you basic internship may be presented during your studiesat TU Hamburg, it is strongly recommended that you de facto do your internship prior to taking up your studies at TU Hamburg due to the organization of studies and the duration of non-lecture/non-exam periods).

For further information on when you need to provide evidence that you have finished your basic internship, please see the relevant internship regulations linked below (see table). For some bachelor degree courses it is possible that you divide the ten weeks into separate parts. This way you might do most of your internship prior to taking up your studies, leaving you only with the rest to you during your studies. For specifics please consult the relevant regulations.

For your basic internship to be recognized please contact the relevant internship office. The table below holds information on whom to contact.
