Airbus

Sustainability Impact driven by Standardization of Cabin Seats Assembly Parts

Description of the company

Airbus is an international pioneer in the aerospace industry. We are a leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions to customers on a
global scale. At Airbus, we want to be known not only for our exceptional products and services, but also for the positive impact we have on the world and its citizens

Situation

Various number of cabin seating supplier and huge variety of cabin seating products weight is number one contributor for the environmental impact of cabins seat cyclic economy → reuse of products instead of recycling is one of 4 strategic goals to minimize the environmental impact.

Problem

Weight Reduction and standardization of products sub assembly parts to reuse those in a cyclic economy could be conflicting requirements

Aims of the project

Assessment on environmental impact of aviation seat module assembly part standardization compared with non aviation commercial transport industries

Scopes

  • identification of products sub assembly parts which could be standardized
  • identification of reuse of those parts in non aviation commercial transport industries and vice versa environmental impact assessment (e.g. LCA methodology) to compare potential weight
  • impact of standardization and benefit for standardization use in cyclic economy in other non aviation commercial transport industries
