Server virtualization in the data center under VMware vSphere
Since 2007, we have been using VMware for server virtualization in our data center. The system currently consists of ten Dell PowerEdge R760 servers. Each server is equipped with 1.1 TiB of main memory. Every server is connected to the data center’s central SAN system via 32 Gbit FC.
We currently offer virtual servers running various operating systems: Windows Server, Debian Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Ubuntu LTS Linux.
We are happy to offer virtual servers to the departments at TUHH. If you are interested in a virtual server on the data center’s VMware vSphere system, please contact us. Please note that we can only offer virtual servers in large quantities or virtual servers that deviate significantly from the standard configuration after consultation and only within the limits of available resources.
Note
The virtualization infrastructure in the data centre is not suitable for virtual servers that make intensive use of CPU resources or have above-average equipment requirements. For security reasons, virtual servers may not be used interactively in teaching.
If we discover that this restriction is being violated, we reserve the right to shut down the virtual server.
