Information and Counseling Services for Prospective Students

The TUHH stages several information events each year for prospective students. Each event has a different main focus and alignment. To take part in our online-events you will need:

  • Computer (system requirements) or smartphone (system requirements).
  • Internet connection - wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
  • Speakers and microphone - built-in or as a USB plug-in or wireless with Bluetooth.
  • Optionally recommended: Webcam or HD webcam - built-in or as USB plug-in

What does it mean specifically to study Engineering Sciences?
TUHH4u provides answers to this question. Our aim is to enable you to make an informed decision about which course to enrol for by giving you some insights into everyday student life before you commence your studies, and by telling you about the requirements and opportunities for study at the TUHH.

TUHH4u – For who?
High-school graduates and those interested in applying for a Bachelor course at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

Who is the organizer?
A joint project of the Central Student Counseling Service, student tutors and specialist advisory services of the TUHH.

Prospective student round-up (digital)

Once a month, the Central Student Advisory Service (Zentrale Studienberatung) of the TUHH organises an information round for prospective students of the Bachelor's degree programmes, where you can ask questions on general topics related to taking up studies at the TUHH. The meeting is in German.

In addition to basic information about the Bachelor's degree programmes at the TUHH, the following topics will be covered:

  • Choosing a course of study, deciding on a course of study

  • Application and beginning of studies

  • Preparation for studies and study requirements

  • Study conditions and study procedure

  • Admission to higher education without a general university entrance qualification

  • as well as all other questions and topics that are important to you.

We cordially invite you to participate in one of our upcoming information sessions.

Please note that it is unfortunately not possible for parents of prospective students to take part in the information round.
For interested parents, there are separate information and counselling offers within the framework of our trial study ("Parent Talk") as well as within the framework of the event "Update Eltern" ("Update Parents") of the Agentur für Arbeit ("Employment Agency").

Taster Days (Schnupperstudium)

The next Taster Days will probably take place in February 2023

We would like to give you a foretaste of TUHH. Are you interested to find out what industrial engineers or civil engineers are doing? What expertise they need, in which companies they work and what their work routine looks like? Would you like to have interesting insights in companies in industry, aviation or the technology sector? How to choose a study program

You may find useful tips on how to choose a career and a study program on the following web page of the Federal Employment Agency.

The Higher Education Compass (Hochschulkompass) of the German Rectors' Conference (Hochschulrektorenkonferenz) gives an overview of the study options at German universities and provides help on choosing a study programme.

Information on the previous knowledge and prerequisites in mathematics required for a study program in engineering sciences can be obtained through the test MINTFIT.HAMBURG, which is available online and free of charge.

You can brush up your knowledge in mathematics and prepare yourself systematically for the requirements in mathematics of a study program in engineering sciences through the Online Mathematics Bridging Course OMB+ and the video-based interactive preparatory course ViaMINT, which are available online and free of charge.

Tips for Parents

You can obtain information on how to successfully support and accompany your child through the process of choosing a career and a study program on the following web page of the Federal Employment Agency.

As part of the Taster Days (please see above), TUHH offers the Parent Talk, a group counseling session for parents of prospective students. During this session, student counselors answer questions with respect to choosing a study program or university, job perspectives and other topics.

With participation of the TUHH, the Federal Employment Agency in Hamburg provides information on job training and study opportunities as well as on services for further information and counseling to prospective graduates of high-schools in Hamburg and their parents once a year at the Update Eltern event.
