On August 23, 2023, the Academic Senate approved the renaming of the Civil Engineering Dean of Students Office to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Dean of Students Office with the following rationale:
1.   "Civil and Environmental Engineering" includes and integrates all institutes of the Dean of Studies Office.
2.   "Civil and Environmental Engineering" more clearly represents the degree programs for which we are responsible.
3.   "Civil and Environmental Engineering" is in line with TUHH's growth concept and strategy as well as its vision "Engineering to face climate change".
4.   We follow numerous renowned national and international universities with the renaming.
5.   The new name is advantageous for future talent and third-party funding acquisition in view of the increasing interest in environmental engineering.

The Academic Senate thus followed the reasoning and wishes of the professoriate and the Dean of Studies Committee. The renaming is a result of the strategy workshop of the professors of the dean's office at the beginning of June.
