Congratulations to the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Operations on its 25th anniversary

Institute for Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Management headed by Prof. Jürgen Grabe celebrates its 25th birthday

The Institute of Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Management at TUHH celebrated its 25th anniversary yesterday with an inspiring symposium on "Challenges in Geotechnical Engineering". The event took place on the afternoon of September 7, 2023 and attracted guests as well as former and current employees* of the institute.

The institute was founded a quarter of a century ago under the leadership of Prof. Jürgen Grabe, who was appointed in 1998. The institute focuses on basic and applied research in geotechnics as well as teaching in the fields of geotechnics and construction operations.

The symposium, held within the festive framework of the anniversary, offered its guests the opportunity to pay tribute to the developments and achievements of the institute and at the same time to take a look into the future. Presentations were given by Prof. Torsten Wichtmann, Ruhr University Bochum, Prof. Helmut Schweiger, TU Graz and Prof. Roberto Cudmani, TU Munich.

During the symposium, scientific staff members of the Institute presented their research work and reported on their experiences and findings from their time at the Institute.

The opening speech was given by Prof. Irina Smirnova, Vice President for Research at TUHH. She praised the outstanding work of Prof. Grabe and the staff of the institute.

In the evening, the anniversary ended with a pleasant get-together on the historic sailing ship "Rickmer-Rickmers".
