Courses & Certification

The professional development programmes offered by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (ZLL) provide all teaching staff at Hamburg University of Technology – from tutors to professors – with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with various teaching approaches and methods, to further develop their teaching skills, and to exchange ideas. The courses always incorporate the teaching staff’s experiences and their specific teaching situations. Theory and methodology are tailored to the specific needs of teaching staff in the engineering disciplines. From short introductory sessions – the cross-target-group ‘TeachING Appetisers’ – through onboarding and networking meetings for professors, to specific training courses for tutors and a continuing professional development programme for research assistants – the I³ProTeachING Programme – the ZLL offers tailor-made teaching support to its various target groups.

Evaluation of Teaching

Evaluation of Teaching

Regular, anonymous course evaluations capture how students perceive the teaching.

The course evaluation system at Hamburg University of Technology was redesigned using a participatory process. There is a new, short basic questionnaire. In addition, instructors have the option to add their own course-specific questions.

The course evaluation serves as the basis for a dialogue between faculty and students regarding learning outcomes, course quality, and the further development of teaching.

Digital Teaching

Teaching and Learning with and within the Digital World

Designing teaching in a contemporary and innovative way—that is our goal at the Technical University of Hamburg. To this end, various advisory and support services are available to all faculty members:

  1. The Center for Teaching and Learning (ZLL) supports faculty in the pedagogical (further) development of teaching for both in-person and online courses. The ZLL is happy to provide guidance on the selection, design, and use of digital media in courses. For more information about the ZLL, visit TUHH: Startpage
  2. The Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU) at the Technical University of Hamburg supports faculty members through project funding to test, evaluate, and further develop innovative teaching and learning formats. The focus is on making teaching accessible to the interested public, so all content developed at the HOOU is made openly available. For more information, visit https://hoou.tuhh.de/
  3. The University Library (TUB) supports research, teaching, and learning at the Technical University of Hamburg through its services and its collection of digital and print media. For years, it has been committed to the ideals of Open Science and the associated free availability of scientific knowledge and open education. For more information about the TUB, visit www.tub.tuhh.de
  4. The Computer Center provides the digital infrastructure and offers support for technical questions: servicedesk[at]tuhh.de
