We offer all teaching staff at TU Hamburg a wide range of professional educational opportunities. Whether through informal discussions in the Professors Lounge, interactive ZLL Workshops on teaching and learning topics, the flexible I³ProTeachING programme for early-career academics, curriculum-integrated tutor training sessions, or brief, topic-focused inputs for all staff in our TeachING Appetizers – there’s something for everyone.
All our offerings provide the chance to explore effective teaching concepts, share practical experiences with peers, further develop your teaching profile, and connect with colleagues in the TU teaching community.
In the ZLL workshops, you will meet fellow teaching staff. You will try out highly effective teaching methods as well as digital media and tools for your courses, and you will design your own teaching concepts. You will further develop your teaching persona and tackle the challenges of your teaching practice together with others. Whether you are new to teaching or already experienced, the workshops offer concise insights into essential didactic principles, specialist topics, and current trends.
Our workshop catalogue is open to all interested academic staff, senior engineers, and external teaching staff at Hamburg University of Technology, as well as participants from our cooperation partners.
You can also take part in the Teaching Appetizers and I³ProTeachING events. You can find the dates on this page.

Important Information:
I³ProTeachING is TU Hamburg’s flexible, teaching-focused professional development programme, launched by the Executive Board in 2019 to sustainably ensure high-quality teaching and to best support student learning. Over the course of 60 hours and a maximum duration of two years, early-career academic staff receive tailored, network-oriented, needs-based, evidence-informed, and practice-oriented training.
The programme includes an initial consultation, hands-on workshops, accompanying components such as reflection, peer observation, and a practical teaching project, as well as a formal closing event – all coordinated by the Centre for Teaching and Learning in cooperation with the Graduate Academy.
The semester-long training sessions for tutors are specifically designed to prepare students for their teaching roles while also offering the opportunity to earn two credit points within the Non-Technical Courses programme. In addition to providing valuable qualifications relevant to the job market, the trainings focus on developing personal competencies such as group facilitation, communication, and self-reflection.
Tailored training sessions are offered for tutors supporting projects, PBL (problem-based learning), lab courses, and tutorials (e.g. in electrical engineering, mathematics, mechanics), in cooperation with the Engineering Education Research Group. These trainings contribute to long-term academic staff development, as many tutors later go on to work as academic staff members.
Please note that the tutor training programme is offered in German.
In 60 to 90 minutes, our digital TeachING Appetizer provides concise impulses on current topics related to teaching, didactics, and innovation – compact, practical, and with no registration required.
Professors, senior engineers, academic staff, external teaching staff, tutors, and members of our partner institutions – HCU, HAW, Leuphana, and ECIU – are warmly invited to take part.
Recurring topics include AI in teaching, third-party funding opportunities for teaching projects, and innovative teaching methods.
