Ecosystem for future cold rooms
Description of the company
Danfoss is a family-owned, global engineering company focused on energy efficiency, climate solutions, machine productivity, and electrification. We provide technologies and solutions for industries like refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, power conversion, and mobile machinery. Their aim is to create a sustainable future through innovative engineering.
Situation
Cold rooms are walk-in storage spaces designed to maintain low temperatures. They are crucial for preserving perishable goods like food and pharmaceuticals. Their use ensures product quality and safety. Danfoss supplies products for this application like condensing units, controllers and controllers. Cold room applications in the focus are smaller applications, such as restaurants or small retailers.
Problem
In the cold room business, there is typically not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) building and providing the entire system. Installers will buy parts through wholesalers. The installation and commissioning of cold rooms can be inefficient because products need to be set up individually for each new cold room solution. This creates additional costs and efforts for the end-user.
Aims of the project
Define and validate an ecosystem for future cold rooms that increases the ease of installation and commissioning, potentially comparable to a self-setup device in a smart ecosystem.
The definition and validation are to be done technically, potentially by building on ideas from similar ecosystems from other industries and applying the idea to the cold-room application, followed by a list of technical requirements for such a cold room smart eco-system.
The definition and validation are also to be done commercially, covering topics such as end-user price and go-to-market.
