Description of the company
PVI GmbH is a small Hamburg-based sustainability company specializing in photovoltaic solutions and energy consulting for private and commercial clients. Founded in 2021, With our expertise in renewable energy and digital transformation, we're ideally positioned to lead innovative sustainability projects that benefit Hamburg's communities.
Situation
This project directly addresses Hamburg's climate resilience challenges while creating a tool that makes complex urban data accessible to everyone. Your work will help policymakers make more informed decisions and empower citizens to better understand their neighborhoods.
Problem
As a student, you'll help create the Hamburg District Atlas – an interactive digital platform that visualizes energy resilience, environmental sustainability, and social equality metrics across Hamburg's neighborhoods. This tool will serve both as an analytical resource for urban planners and as an educational tool for citizens to understand their neighborhood's sustainability performance.
Aims of the project
You'll research, structure, and calculate key data in three critical areas:
- Energy resilience metrics: Map infrastructure vulnerabilities, renewable energy distribution, and backup power capabilities
- Environmental sustainability: Analyze heat island effects, green space access, and flood risk factors
- Social equality indicators: Assess resource distribution, community vulnerability, and access to services
Working with our professional team, you'll:
- Select which specific metrics to include in the map
- Choose the initial pilot district for implementation
- Design the visualization components and user interface
Document the framework for future expansion
Scopes
- Practical experience in data analysis and visualization
- GIS mapping and civic technology development
- Project management in a professional environment
- Interdisciplinary collaboration between technical and social fields
Target group (students)
This project is perfect for students interested in:
- Data science and visualization
- Urban planning and sustainability
- Software development and UX design
- Environmental engineering or social sciences
You'll have the chance to shape this project from the ground up, making key decisions about priorities and implementation approaches. The outcome will be a tangible product with potential for significant community impact.
Additional Opportunities
If our parallel funding application is successful, you'll have access to enhanced resources for data collection and professional support. Regardless of funding outcomes, your work has the potential for public recognition, including press coverage highlighting your contribution to making Hamburg more resilient and equitable.
