PLOVITI develops smart indoor navigation app

Hamburg, 22 July 2025

Time-consuming searches for the desired products and unnecessary metres walked in the supermarket could soon be a thing of the past. The young start-up PLOVITI has developed an app that navigates customers efficiently and effectively through the aisles of a shop. A smart shopping list with lots of information about the desired products is provided on top.

Background to PLOVITI

PLOVITI is the brainchild of Sharon Nisha Thiruvarul Durai, a double Master's graduate from Hamburg University of Technology. The idea for indoor navigation arose from her own experience of time-consuming supermarket visits, which not only cost customers but also employees nerves and turnover. With the support of start-up counselling from Startup Port@TUHH, she successfully applied for funding from Exist Women, programmed the first sensors and developed a beta version of the innovative indoor navigation system.

How the app works

Users enter their products into the app before shopping, which the application uses to create a smart shopping list. At the same time, the app creates a roadmap that uses arrows and distance information to show the shortest and most effective route through the shelves. If I spontaneously add items to the list, the app recalculates the route in real time. The app guides you through the shop and the shopping is done in no time and without frustration.

The PLOVITI app is currently in the test phase and is due to be launched in autumn. Next, she wants to address other target groups, such as airports, malls and trade fairs, places where customers want to find their products quickly from a wide range of options. If she is successful with this, she would like to develop her innovation in the direction of robotics and drones for delivery systems and thus open up further markets.
