In cooperation with IBH, the TUHH offers German courses at various levels for international students on English-language degree programmes during the semester.

In addition a special course German, focussing on "Starting your professional career" will be offered. The course is also be open to doctoral candidates. Please note that a German language level of B1 is required to join the course.

The courses are free of charge for TUHH students and take place on Wednesdays from 3 to 6.15 pm during lecture periods.

These courses are only available to international students in English-language degree programs (international Master's degree programs as well as the Bachelor's degree program Engineering Science/Advanced Materials)

The German course "Starting your professional career" is also be open to doctoral candidates. Please note that a German language level of B1 is required to join this course.

Exchange students are not eligible to participate. German courses are available for international exchange students (e.g. via the ERASMUS programme) in cooperation with the VHS. Click here for the German courses for international exchange students.

Registration does not take place via TUNE/StudIP, but via an online form that you will find on this website about three weeks before the start of lectures. Please note that places are limited.

If you want to join the courses for the first time please take the Cornelsen Online-test which is suitable up to level B1. From level B2 you should take the placement test on http://www.sprachtest.de/.

Students on English-language study programs are required by the Subject-Specific Examination Regulations to provide one-off proof of 4 credits earned by taking part in a German course (IBH). (This does not apply to master’s students who have passed a German exam that exempts them from this requirement in accordance with Annex 1 to the Study Regulations.) The missing 2 credits for the non-technical mandatory course module may be selected from the NTA course offering at the TUHH. After completing the compulsory German course, a further IBH German course is an additional option, which is recognised with 2 credits. However, this additional German course can only be counted as a non-technical elective if it is at a higher proficiency level than the previous one.

The IBH German courses are not graded.

If you wish to take an examination in order to acquire credit points, you must register for this examination in TUNE. No credit points can be gained without registering for an exam. Exam registration takes place exclusively during a two-week period. The registration period will be announced in good time.
