Visiting Research Students at TUHH

Project work & individual internship

Individual project work

If you'd like to carry out individual project work within your thesis at TUHH, the first step is to contact the relevant supervising professor directly in one of the TUHH Research Institutes according to your research subject. Projects for completion of Bachelor or Master Thesis are usually carried out at the TUHH or with co-(supervision) of an  external institution or company. The supervising TUHH professor defines the required documentation and presentation of the student´s project.

Individual internship

If you are interested in doing an individual internship at TUH, you should contact the supervising professor that you are interested in working with directly. You will find a professor with a speciality appropriate to your interests by looking up the TUHH Research Institutes. Individual internship projects are usually carried out at the TUHH or with co-(supervision) of an external institution or company. The supervising TUHH professor defines the required documentation and presentation of the student´s project.

Please note that you will not be enrolled as an exchange student, but as a guest researcher. Therefore, you will not be able to attend study courses and transfer credits points to your home institution.

Please contact the STUDIS department, Mrs Hennke, at Vanessa.hennke(at)tuhh(dot)de, who will help you to carry out the registration procedure as a guest researchers to that you may gain access to the campus infrastructure.

Erasmus traineeship

Students coming to TUHH from ERASMUS partner universities are treated as regular interns at departments of TUHH, with the exception that they receive a grant from their home university through the ERASMUS student mobility for traineeship programme (SMP or SMT).

No bilateral ERASMUS agreement is needed.

ERASMUS traineeship (SMP/SMT) is not to be confused with ERASMUS student mobility for studies (SMS), also called ERASMUS student exchange.

  • The Learning Agreement of ERASMUS Traineeship has to be signed by the direct supervisor (member of the TUHH department) of the internship.
  • The registration as a guest researcher (not as an exchanage student) will be carried out by the STUDIS department / Vanessa Hennke at Vanessa.hennke(at)tuhh(dot)de.

Internship programmes with partners

University of Waterloo and University of Barkeley

Students from the two TUHH partner institutions listed above, University of Waterloo and University of Berkeley, who come to TUHH for a research stay or internship, are considered regular student assistants at the TUHH institute and are enrolled at TUHH as exchange students. The research institute provides information and supports you with the application and enrollment process.

For further information, please contact the Institute of Mechanics and Ocean Engineering. The responsible persons there are Prof. R. Seifried (Email: robert.seifried(at)tuhh[dot)de) and the programme coordinators, who can be found at tuhh.de/mum/en/auslandsstudium/uwaterloo and tuhh.de/mum/en/auslandsstudium/uc-berkeley, respectively.

ECIU

As part of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities, TUHH offers students from the educational network diverse opportunities for challenge-based learning. The ECIU University is an innovative educational network at the European level, supported by 12 partner universities.

Students may choose challenges or micro-modules as short learning units or individual courses within their study program, without having to complete the entire module or study program. These can be credited with ECTS points according to their scope.

Further information can be found on the ECIU Engage platform.
