The Hamburg University of Technology opened the exhibition “SCHWEBEZUSTÄNDE” with works by Hamburg artist Johannes Hartmann with a vernissage. Dr. Ralf Grote praised the exhibition on behalf of the TU Hamburg's art initiative in the presence of the artist, who provided insights into the creative process behind individual works during a joint tour.
Johannes Hartmann, born in Hamburg in 1954, became known for, among other things, the peace slogan “Imagine there's a war and nobody goes,” which he spray-painted as graffiti on the Hamburg bunker on Heiligengeistfeld in 1981 and subsequently distributed as a poster graphic.
Since then, Hartmann has discovered acrylic glass and construction foils for his art. To work with them, he uses a complex artistic technique in which the backs of the materials are painted in mirror image and the layers of paint are applied in reverse order. The resulting works are characterized by their special luminosity and an aesthetic that Hartmann calls “floating painting.”
The works can be viewed in the foyer of Main Building A on the Schwarzenberg Campus 1. The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public from October 6 to December 21, 2025.
