Establishing an Interdisciplinary Academic Network for Safe Digital Transformation in the Maritime Industry (SADIT-MAR)

SADIT-MAR is a collaborative project funded by the Lloyds Register Foundation and aims to establish a global academic network to support safe digital transformation in the maritime industry.

The focus is on bridging the technological gap between high- and middle-income countries. The project started in September 2025. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, conferences, workshops, research visits, and training programs, the project will foster innovation, enhance maritime safety, and promote inclusive, sustainable digitalisation practices. It will convene experts from engineering, regulation, cybersecurity, maritime law, public policy, economics, sociology, and human factors. This broad expertise ensures that safety challenges in maritime digital transformation are addressed holistically—considering not only technical but also legal, regulatory, social, and economic dimensions.
One central goal is the preparation of new research projects in the wake of SADIT-MAR. The coordinator of SADIT-MAR is Yildiz Technical University (Turkey) and TUHH it is represented by the collaboration of Franz von Bock und Polach (M-10) and Friedrich Wirz (M-12). University of Rostock is also included through Lars Radtke a former M-10 post-doc. The international network is completed by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, University College London and University of the Americas Puebla.
