Online application for the TUHH student exchange programme

Applications must be submitted online via the Mobility Online platform. Registration for Mobility Online is via single sign-on. If you encounter any technical issues with Mobility Online, please contact: outgoing(at)tuhh.de

TUHH Student Exchange Application Form
(The link will be activated on 15 November or 15 May for any remaining places for the summer semester.)

  1. You will first be redirected to the Shibboleth authentication page. Please use your StudIP login details to authenticate.
  2. You will then be taken to the application form. Once you have completed and submitted the online form, a new application will be created in Mobility-Online. This is only the first part of your online application!
Before submitting the application form, please check that all details are correct (e.g. the desired semester) and follow the instructions in the emails you receive during the application process.
  3. After submitting the application form, you will receive a confirmation email containing the new link for further access to your application(s) in Mobility-Online. Please use this link to log in to Mobility-Online again to view your application(s), complete your details and upload all required documents. This is only possible during the current application period!
  4. You will find all forms and necessary documents for uploading in your application workflow on Mobility-Online. Your application is considered submitted once all details are complete and all documents have been uploaded. You will then receive another automatic confirmation email.

Once the application deadline has passed, you will no longer be able to start a new application, edit your existing application or upload further documents.

Incomplete applications will be automatically rejected the day after the application deadline!

Online application for ISAP – Berkeley/Waterloo

To apply for exchange places under the ISAP programme, you must submit a separate application. The application process is the same as for the TUHH student exchange programme, and the application period begins on 15 November. The application deadline is always in early January (usually the first Monday after the public schools’ winter holidays).

Further information, the current application deadline and the link to the online application form can be found on the website of the ISAP Programme.

A prerequisite for writing the letter of motivation is that you have researched the desired partner university sufficiently (e.g. which campus is available under the agreement? suitable courses for incoming exchange students in the semester you wish to spend abroad...).
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Proof of language proficiency in the language of instruction at least at B2 level
    • Current TUHH certificate of enrolment
    • Current transcript of records

FAQ on applying online via Mobility-Online

Where can I find the link to the application form?

During the application period, you will find the link to the application form further up on this website, along with details on how to apply online.

The link to the application form isn't working. Why?
      • Try using a different browser (Firefox or Chrome)
      • Connect to the TUHH campus network via the VPN client and log in using your Kerberos credentials – then try again
      • Clear your cache and cookies and restart your browser.
      • If you have tried all of the above and it still isn’t working, please contact the Outgoing Team
When is the application period and how long does it last?

Applications for the TUHH student exchange programme open in mid-November. The application period closes on 15 December. Between November and December, you can submit your application via the link on the Team Outgoing website. In May/July of each year, there is usually an opportunity to apply for any remaining places – though only for the summer semester.
Your application will be automatically sent to us as soon as you have uploaded all the required documents. After the final upload, you will receive a confirmation email with further information about the selection process.

Why can’t I see my preferred university on the shortlist? Who should I contact if I have questions about exchange places on Mobility-Online?

Please send an email stating which degree programme/level of study you are currently enrolled in at TUHH, and contact the Outgoing Office.

Wo finde ich den Link zum Weiterbearbeiten meiner Bewerbung (nach Abschicken des Bewerbungsformulars)?

Where can I find the link to continue editing my application (after submitting the application form)?

Mobility-Online is displaying incorrect address details. How can I change this?

The data is taken from the TUHH campus administration network. If an incorrect address is listed there, you can correct it via the student self-service portal. It may take some time for the correct details to appear in Mobility-Online.

Where can I find the upload steps and required documents in Mobility Online?

Once you have submitted the application form, please log back into Mobility-Online and open your application by clicking on the link provided in the confirmation email. You will now see the workflow, which includes links for entering your details, downloading forms and uploading documents. If you cannot see everything, you can expand the following upload steps using the small white crosses.

How long will I have to wait for a response after the application deadline has passed?

As a rule, we require 6–8 weeks after the application deadline to allocate places. The selection decision is made by the Deputy Deans for International Affairs in each faculty and their assistants. Some partnerships have their own selection committees (e.g. Berkeley / Waterloo), which may make their decisions slightly earlier or later. The selection process is complex and time-consuming. Thank you for your patience; please wait until you hear from us.

In due course, you will receive an email confirming your acceptance or rejection, along with further information regarding the administrative steps required for the next stage of the process.

      Important note

The Outgoing Department cannot guarantee that your application to the partner university will be successful!
In rare cases, partner universities may change the conditions of their exchange programmes at short notice (e.g. place quotas, language requirements and other admission criteria). If nominated exchange students are not accepted by the partner university for any reason, the student must inform the Outgoing Team immediately.

The TUHH cannot cover the costs of travel, (health) insurance, vaccinations and administrative fees at the partner university.
