Common standards for space communications and data systems are what make Mars rovers, the ISS, and collaborative space exploration in general, possible. These standards are developed by the “Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems” (CCSDS), an international forum comprised of the world’s space agencies and space industry. This week, the TUHH had the honor of hosting the CCSDS Fall Meeting 2025, which was held by the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) of the European Space Agency.

The CCSDS brings together 11 member agencies such as ESA, NASA, and DLR, 28 observer agencies, and more than 140 industry partners, including Airbus and Thales Alenia Space. Since 1982, its work has ensured that spacecraft, missions, and ground systems can seamlessly share data among international partners.

Thanks to the organization of Teresa Algarra Ulierte and the Institute of Communication Networks, as well as the support of Prof. Andreas Timm-Giel, the CCSDS meetings at TUHH were a success. They further strengthened the university’s cooperation with the space sector, in particular with ESA and ESOC. Having these global experts, agencies, and industry leaders gathered here highlights TUHH’s commitment to advancing science and technology.
