Airbus

Self-adjusting cabin illumination

Description of the company

Airbus' aircraft division, officially Airbus Commercial Aircraft, is the group's core business and the world's largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft. Its portfolio ranges from narrow-body aircraft such as the A220 and A320 families to wide-body aircraft such as the A330neo and A350. A central focus in the development of all these aircraft is the cabin, as it represents the direct passenger experience and the crew's workplace.

Situation

The static cabin illumination should react to light disturbances (e.g. reading light, sun light, displays).

Problem

Currently, cabin lighting is controlled centrally using preprogrammed scenarios. Disturbances such as sunlight, reflections, or other light sources can negatively impact the cabin's appearance. Currently, there is no way to eliminate the effects of these disturbances.

Aims of the project

The aim of the project is to identify and eliminate the influence of the aforementioned disturbances. The disturbances will be detected by analyzing e.g. video streams and the results will be used to dynamically adjust the cabin lighting.
