From the 8th to the 10th of September 2026, around 80 scientists and representatives from industry explored issues relating to complex flows and how these can be made visible and measurable. Experts from Germany and beyond gathered to discuss the latest developments in experimental fluid mechanics. Particularly in an age where digital technology is becoming increasingly capable of collating data more quickly and efficiently, precise experimental data is playing an ever more important role: “Only by capturing real flow processes can we develop reliable models and improve new technologies" says Prof. Michael Schlüter.
The conference also provided a good opportunity to discuss the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1615 “SMART Reactors”, based at the Technical University of Hamburg. This centre is developing novel reactors that can be used to detect and specifically influence local process conditions.
The accompanying industry exhibition, which showcased the latest developments in measurement systems and fluid mechanics, facilitated dialogue between academia and industry. The conference also provided an excellent opportunity, particularly for early-career researchers, to establish new contacts.
