In July, the Olin Prize was awarded for the 10th time at the Institute of Process Sytem Engineering, and was won by four female students from the Bachelor Study Program Chemical and Bioengineering; Deborah Nnko, Isabel Schmidt, Finja Stadtler, Jannie Stadtler and Ester Kezia Styne impressed the judges with their outstanding poster on the design of a biodiesel plant and were each awarded prize money of 250 euros by the sponsor, Olin. The prize marked the conclusion of the ‘Development of Process Engineering’ module, which focuses on applying theoretical specialist knowledge to specific industrial challenges. At the end of the semester, the teams present their results to a specialist audience. At this poster session, the prize-winners impressed the six-member jury with their in-depth understanding of the process and their creative ideas for further developing the plant.
The sponsor, “Olin”, is a chemical company whose products form the basis for numerous applications, such as renewable energy plants, smartphone components and pressure vessels. One of its production sites is located in nearby Stade.
