TU Hamburg continues its internationalization strategy: President Andreas Timm-Giel welcomed a high-ranking delegation from China’s Tsinghua University – one of the world’s leading universities – on the TUHH campus. During this meeting, Prof. Timm-Giel and Prof. Li Luming, President of Tsinghua University in Beijing, signed a cooperation agreement (Memorandum of Understanding). The agreement facilitates student mobility and collaboration within the framework of the TU key topic "Engineering to Face Climate Change." Together, both universities will continue to support the initiatives of the “World Society of Carbon Neutrality.”

Focus of the Cooperation: Artificial Intelligence in Teaching

The focus of the joint meeting in Hamburg was the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching. Prof. Timm-Giel, President of TU Hamburg, said: "Artificial intelligence will radically change the education of the future – therefore, we must act now. TU Hamburg combines its focus 'Engineering to Face Climate Change' with the approach 'Humboldt 4.0': We integrate research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and science communication, especially in our CampusLabs. From Tsinghua University, a globally leading university and frontrunner in AI in education, we want to learn and jointly shape the future for a better world – through concrete joint projects and exchange formats in teaching."

President Li Luming expressed his gratitude for the hospitality in his speech and emphasized the friendly relationship between both universities. He advocated for viewing AI – unlike in many discussions elsewhere – not as a threat to higher education but as a new opportunity. Together, both universities want to advance the various initiatives for AI-based teaching.

During a tour of the campus, the representatives from China visited several facilities at TU Hamburg. These included, among others, the CampusLab "Circular Economy", which opened in 2025, as well as the test hall of the Institute of Production Management and Technology, where precisely processed components produced with 3D printers, among others, can be worked on.

Founded in Beijing in 1911, Tsinghua University is considered one of the best and most prestigious universities worldwide, especially in the fields of engineering, technology, and computer science. It regularly ranks among the top positions in key international rankings such as the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education Ranking.
