Professor Jörg Weißmüller has been head of the Institute of Materials Physics and Technology at the Hamburg University of Technology since 2010 and of the Hybrid Materials Systems working group at the Institute of Materials Research at the Helmholtz Center Geesthacht. His research focuses on nanomaterials, with an emphasis on investigations into the mechanics, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry of interfaces and contributions to the plasticity of nanomaterials and magnetic neutron control.
Weißmüller was a member of the board of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 986 “Tailored Multiscale Material Systems” at the TUHH and is the academic program coordinator of the TUHH master's program “Materials Science.” He was coordinator of the DFG Research Group 714 “Plasticity in Nanocrystalline Metals and Alloys.” In the research fields of nanomaterials, alloy corrosion, and interface mechanics, he organizes international conferences and symposia at national and international meetings.
