The recently published book by Prof. Volker Lenz from the Deutschen Biomassenzentrum and Prof. Martin Kaltschmitt from the Institute of Environmental Technology and Energy Management at TUHH examines the status of renewable energies in Germany and their potential future development. It analyses the natural and legal framework conditions, the energy system and the current status of renewable energies in the electricity generation, heating and mobility sectors. Future developments are outlined in the outlook and two excursuses deal with the global development of wind power and photovoltaics. A fundamental finding is that ‘(t)he share of renewable energies in primary energy consumption (...) increased by 1.6% to 20% compared to the previous year’, of which biomass still accounts for the largest share (59%) (Kaltchmitt/ Lenz - Erneuerbare Energien in Deutschland 2024 - Wiesbaden, Springer: 2025, p. 15 and 85).
