Short biography

Kai Kruber studied chemical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund (B.Sc. 2015, M.Sc. 2016) and subsequently worked as a research assistant at the Laboratory of Fluid Separations at TU Dortmund from 2016 to 2020. Since November 2020, he has been working at the Institute of Process Systems Engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2024 with his thesis titled “Optimization-Based Design of Solvent-Based Separation Processes.” Since then, he has been conducting research as a postdoctoral researcher at TU Hamburg, focusing on the model-based design of intensified and hybrid separation processes.

Field of research

His research focuses on the development of efficient, optimization-based methods for the synthesis and design of complex separation processes. His work centers on the model-based design of intensified and hybrid distillation processes. He is currently involved in a DFG-funded project aimed at developing a framework for building-block-based process synthesis.
