On the occasion of the first joint meeting of the UN University Hubs at TU Hamburg, another step towards a collaborative partnership was taken in a ceremonial setting: the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding. Professor Alberto Guadagnini, Vice Rector for Research at Politecnico di Milano, and Professor Andreas Timm-Giel, President of TU Hamburg, affirmed in the document their commitment to close scientific relations in all areas characterized by shared interests. Above all, the expansion of student exchanges, the intensification of research cooperation, and close collaboration in teaching are on the agenda. In particular, in the field of research, the focus is on the development of joint research proposals and projects. Politecnico di Milano and TU Hamburg already cooperate in several fields of engineering sciences. Looking ahead, the two universities aim for a comprehensive and overarching partnership across all disciplines. Specifically, this concerns:
- the organization of seminars, courses, workshops, summer schools, internships, and other similar initiatives;
- the development of joint study and research initiatives as well as collaborative research projects;
- the organization of meetings, congresses, lectures (or other events) to enhance the exchange of knowledge and experiences;
- strengthening collaboration between research institutions, e.g., in photonics, living labs, and more;
- the exchange of documentation: papers, reviews, educational materials, exhibitions;
- planning the establishment of dual doctoral programs that involve joint supervision by faculties of both institutions to ensure high-quality, jointly recognized doctoral education and peer-reviewed publications;
- the exchange of researchers, staff, and/or students, also with regard to the new master's program Climate-Informed Engineering at Hamburg University of Technology.
