Empatho-Kinaesthetic Sensory Systems - EmkpinS

Sensor Technologies and Data Analysis for empatho-kinaesthetic Modeling and Monitoring

The DFG-funded Collaborative-Research-Center - CRC 1483 - "Empatho-Kinaesthetic Sensory Systems" (EmpkinS) will investigate novel sensor technology, as well as functional models of the human body and algorithms to enable an unobtrusive, contactless acquisition of medical parameters. Novel innovative human models create the link between the body's internal status and externally measured quantities.

At IHF, a cardiovascular respiratory microwave interferometer is investigated to perform contactless measurements of vital parameters such as heart rate or breathing rate over distances of several meters. Major challenges are the compensation of motion artifacts caused by nonlinear effects and the evaluation of suitable frequencies for reliable measurements with high precision as required for medical applications.

At a later stage, the radar sensors are used to study the functional human body models and predict changes of a patients health condition from the measured vital parameters.
