We are your student council representatives. We organize events for you (bar evenings, barbecues, small or large parties, and much more) and represent your interests to the university. Issues relating to your degree program are a particular priority for us, and we can help you find the right contact person for general or individual concerns. For more information about who we are and what we do, visit our website: www.tuhh.de/fsrv/aktuell
Here we are:
Building E, room 0.100 (E0.100)
Phone: 040/42878-4010
Email: fsrv@tuhh.de
The single letter at the beginning usually stands for the building on the main campus. There, buildings are named from A to Q. This is followed by a sequence of numbers, the first of which is a single digit, separated by a “.” from another sequence of numbers. The number before the period represents the floor and is always a single digit throughout the TU! The digits after the period represent the room number where the course or person you are looking for can be found. There is one exception with the following labels Less commonly, the designation begins with
BS Blohmstraße
HS Harburger Schloßstraße
TYS Theodor-Yorck-Straße
SMD Schloßmühlendamm
This is often followed by a number that indicates the building number. Only then
does the floor number and then the room number follow according to the familiar principle. The
site plan can be found here: tinyurl.com/LageplanTUHHganz

The AStA is the general student committee. It takes care of everything that is important to all
students at the university. You can read about what the AStA does, who is currently in the AStA
and how you can contact them here: www.asta.tuhh.de.
No, but they are highly recommended.
Are you studying a German or English degree program? We don't offer English bachelor's degrees ;) However, if you find it easier, you are welcome to attend the English bridge course. The important thing is that you learn and take something away with you.
From us university students to you newcomers. Each student council organizes its own orientation event for its students. Read on if you are sure you have found the right student council.
On our website
No. These are not compulsory events. The only thing you'll miss out on is a lot of fun and the chance to make friends and find study partners right from the start. And to begin your everyday university life with a sense of community.
During OE week, we hold a number of individual events for which registration is important and necessary. This makes planning easier for us, for institutes, and for external companies that kindly offer tours to help you get to know the degree program and the various fields of study. For excursions to companies, you will be asked to pay a deposit (€10), which will be refunded in full during the tour. The most important event during orientation week, for which you must register in advance if you want to participate, is the orientation trip.
The Erstie Party is organized by the AStA. Therefore, you will receive all information about it from the AStA and not from us. In most cases, you will receive an email in good time with a link to book a ticket. The link is only accessible from the TUHH network, which means you must either be connected to the university via eduroam or use the WebVPN to book a ticket. Instructions for setting up the VPN can be found on the computer center website.
This party is intended for you freshmen to get to know other students outside your own student council. You will have some very large lectures together, so it is much more pleasant to already know someone you can go there with.
That's a shame, because the OE is primarily there to help you make contacts. But don't worry, you'll definitely manage that later on. However, the StartING kick-off, the internship presentation, and the How-TU are very informative and give you an idea of what to expect from your studies. You can also find a lot of information in the orientation booklet, but unfortunately not everything. You will receive the booklet with your green VT Erstie bag.
Unfortunately, it's not that easy... the housing market in Hamburg is not simple. You can try all the usual real estate portals or sites such as WGgesucht. The university also has several bulletin boards with notices for finding and being found. You can find these, for example, in front of Audimin (formerly Audimax 2, Building I) at the lower exit of the cafeteria and in Building N. In addition, there is the Studentenwerk, where you can apply for a place in a student residence: https://www.stwhh.de/wohnen-fuer-studierende-und-auszubildende
For all degree programs except GT, the information can be found here under “Other representatives of the Dean's Office for Process Engineering”:
https://tinyurl.com/VerantwortlicheinV
The GT degree program is located in a different dean's office, so the information under “Other representatives of the FIT study area” applies.
https://tinyurl.com/VerantwortlichefGT
Have you submitted all the documents yet? Remember to send the documents by registered mail so that you have proof of delivery, or drop them off in person with someone accompanying you if necessary. The mailboxes at Building E have a time stamp! You can find information about what you need to submit here: https://www.tuhh.de/tuhh/studium/vor-dem-studium/bewerbung/bachelorstudiengaenge/zulassung-einschreibung
That only happens once you are enrolled. The AStA takes care of the rest. Take a look here: https://www.asta.tuhh.de/aktuelles/informationen-zum-deutschlandsemesterticket/
Inorganic Chemistry (AC) and Organic Chemistry (OC) are taught by the University of Hamburg (UHH). To attend lectures and lab classes, you must therefore go to Bundesstraße 45. Lectures take place in the TMC lecture hall. When you enter the main entrance to the building, turn left in the lobby and simply follow the corridor until you reach one of the two doors to the lecture hall. Lab classes and exercises take place in the corresponding rooms in the same wing of the building.
No basic internships are required before starting the CB and GT degree programs.
For all exams except Math 1 and Technical Mechanics 1 in the GT degree program, this is possible up to 2 full days before the exam. In urgent cases (later than 2 days before), a doctor's note is required (https://www.tuhh.de/abteilung-studium-und-lehre/abt-3/zentrales-pruefungsamt-geschaeftsstelle-des-promotionsausschusses-s6/formulare-des-zentralen-pruefungsamts). Do not delay your attempts, as you may urgently need them in some subjects.
Take a look here: https://www.tuhh.de/tuhh/studium/im-studium/rund-um-den-studierendenstatus/termine-fristen
In addition, if your exams go well, you may have a few weeks off at the end of the semester. This is rather unlikely in the winter semester, but in the summer you may well have time off from the beginning of September.
However, individual internships may have to be postponed due to a lack of capacity in the laboratories.
In general, events are not recorded. Some instructors provide lecture recordings or videos. You can find these, along with the rest of the materials, in the respective StudIP event. A little tip: just ask for recordings if none are provided. Most instructors still have some from the coronavirus period and are willing to upload them again. (However, the content may have changed.)
Live streaming is not usually available here. However, some professors upload videos. Any technical errors that arise are then your responsibility as a student.
Psst, we don't talk about that with professors and institute staff! But feel free to send an email to fsrv@tuhh.de.
Depending on your degree program, it is quite possible that some internships will be credited to you in the first few semesters. The Examination Office can provide you with more detailed information: https://www.tuhh.de/sls/service-fuer-lehre-und-studium/zentrales-pruefungsamt-geschaeftsstelle-des-promotionsausschusses-s6
Right on time according to your schedule. We don't have academic quarter hours here.
In the lecture hall exercise, exercises are calculated and explained, while in the group exercise you solve the exercises yourself. There are variations on this. A group exercise never has more than 30 people and is designed as individual help rather than frontal teaching like the lecture hall exercise.
NTAs are non-technical subjects. You must earn 6 ECTS credits in this area. There is a separate table with courses and their scheduled times from which you can choose. You can also have a language course (you can take as many as you want) credited. Further information is available here: https://www.tuhh.de/sls/service-fuer-lehre-und-studium/koordinationsstelle-nta-s8/lehrveranstaltungen/veranstaltungszugang
Please pay attention to the email regarding the registration phase for NTAs and follow the instructions and rules contained therein.
Mathematics 1 is a basic exam. This means that you will be automatically registered for it without the option to deregister until you have passed it or are exmatriculated. The same applies to Technical Mechanics 1 in the GT degree program. This does not apply to CB in the case of Technical Mechanics 1.
That's up to the lecturers; we can only tell you about our experiences. So it's best to ask once you've attended your first lecture.
This will also be explained to you at StartING. During the registration period (approx. 2 weeks each semester, announced by email), if you have any problems registering, please feel free to contact us or the AStA.
There is no compulsory attendance for most modules, and no one checks whether you attend or not. However, it is still advisable to attend classes regularly and concentrate when you do. If it all gets too much for you, feel free to come to Café in A. every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 7 p.m. This is where our BARsupilami takes place, where we relax and recharge our batteries together with friends.
Unfortunately, this happens from time to time. As a general rule, trust StudIP a little more, as it is maintained by the teachers themselves. Otherwise, in this case, you are welcome to ask the teachers and point out the discrepancies to them. And feel free to let us know!
Have you tried searching for the English or German title? They can often be found that way. Still not there? Then check TUNE to see what the event code is and try again with that. Did you enter the exact title from
your study plan? If so, come see us and we may be able to find it together or clarify the issue for everyone.
How to do this will be explained in your first StartING tutorial. This is also timely. Unfortunately, when you do this varies depending on the course. This is because registration in TUNE is not necessary for most lectures, and lecturers activate registration on StudIP when they feel like it, which can be during the exam period or even shortly before or after the first lecture. But don't worry, there are usually only limited places for exercises. If you would like to ask the professors to open the courses on StudIP earlier, feel free to do so, but don't expect this to change anything, except that they may know your name.
There is a recommendation for each semester regarding which courses should be taken in order to complete your studies within the standard period of study. You can find this recommendation by setting the filters correctly here: https://studienplaene.tuhh.de/
IMPORTANT:
Has the StartING kick-off already taken place?
No? Then wait until it has happened. If you still have questions afterwards, feel free to drop by our office at E.0.100.
Yes? All right, then you can continue reading.
Yes! Don't underestimate that.
Nothing is mandatory. Theoretically, you could complete your studies with just a pen, paper, and the PC pools. However, we recommend that you have your own laptop. The operating system is a matter of personal preference and doesn't really matter. The computer center generally only provides support for Windows and sometimes iOS and other operating systems.
One that is not programmable and does not have graphics capabilities. We recommend the CASIO fx-991DEX. If necessary, ask about this at the campus shop (to the right of the library entrance).
Nothing. If you do want to read something, every professor will announce literature recommendations in their lectures or on StudIP. You can usually find these in the library, unless all copies are already checked out. Get yourself a library card! You can easily apply for one online and then pick it up at the library service point (in building J). The registration form can be found here: https://www.tub.tuhh.de/service/anmeldung/
Some literature can also be found online at various publishers, websites, etc., to which we have “institutional” access through the university.
It's best to ask the International Office:
https://www.tuhh.de/tuhh/en/international/international-office
Unfortunately, you will only receive an online license. Information about free software from the university can be found on this page of the FSR ET/IT: https://fsr-etit.de/studieredenvorteile or on the computer center's website with a little searching.
There are free water dispensers in buildings A, E, I, J (library), and N.
Google “Studierendenwerk Mensa Harburg” and select the Studierendenwerk Hamburg website. Make sure it is really the cafeteria in Harburg and scroll all the way down. This information is usually correct. The cafeteria is located in Building I. Otherwise, you can get pizza at the pizza bar in Building I, baked potatoes and pasta at Café ZessP in Building B, and tarte flambée at Café ins Grüne in Building O. Opening hours vary throughout the year.
Yes, we have a gym: https://www.hochschulsport.uni-hamburg.de/sportcampus/studios/tu.html
Otherwise, there are also the university sports programs: https://www.hochschulsport.uni-hamburg.de/
The Kulturfreikarte is an offer from the AStA for first-semester students. You can pick it up at the AStA office upon presentation of your student ID. The AStA will inform you by email when exactly this will be possible.
