A picture is worth a thousand words! Visualisation has many functions in teaching - activating, organises, focuses... Didactically well-designed visualisations help students to better understand complex issues. But how exactly should such a visualisation be designed?

Objectives  and contents

This workshop will look at different functions of visualisation with a focus on acquiring, sharing and processing information. The influence of technology, culture and zeitgeist will be outlined as background for the core content. The workshop will focus on working with and trying out selected forms and tools of visualisation.

Learning objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to explain and critically evaluate the didactic added value of appropriate visualisations. They will be able to select and/or design appropriate visualisations for their own teaching.

Methods

In the workshop, participants will work with impulse lectures, practical exercises in visualisation and work on their own examples. There will also be space for joint discussion and reflection on the topic.

• getting to know the other participants as well as graduating participants and networking with one another
• gaining a first insight into Higher Education studies and Engineering Education studies, teaching/learning theories, research-based learning, challenge-based learning, digital teaching and artificial antelligence in teaching
• exchanging information about teaching at the TU Hamburg

Learning objectives

After the workshop, participants will be able to reflect teaching principles and teaching/learning theories, explain selected methods and formats for student activation, and discuss teaching experiences.

Methods

The workshop offers a varied mix of interactive plenary formats and work in small groups as well as an exchange of best practice examples from the TU Hamburg (as part of the integrated closing event).

Sie spielen gerne Brettspiele, sind leidenschaftliche*r Gamer*in oder freuen sich schon auf den nächsten Besuch eines Escape-Rooms? Warum diese positive Energie nicht auch in der Lehre nutzen? Entgegen mancher Vorurteile, dass Hochschullehre und Spaß beim Lernen nicht zusammenpassen, ist es schon lange belegt, dass spielerische Elemente den Lernprozess fördern. Wir ermöglichen Ihnen in diesem Workshop, mehr über Game-Based Learning zu erfahren und hands-on spielerische Einheiten zu erleben.

Im Workshop wird es um folgende Fragen gehen:

• Was ist Game-Based Learning und wie lässt sich das von anderen Lernsettings mit Spielelementen unterscheiden?
• Wie unterstützt Game-Based Learning den Lernprozess?
• Welche Spielelemente können in der Lehre sinnvoll eingesetzt werden?
• Welche Praxisbeispiele gibt es an der TU Hamburg?
• Gibt es Ansatzpunkte für Spielelemente in meiner eigenen Lehre?

Am Ende des Workshops kennen und verstehen die Teilnehmende verschiedene Elemente des spielerischen Lernens sowie Game Based Learning und können diese auf ihre eigenen Lehrveranstaltungen übertragen.

Der Workshop bietet eine abwechslungsreiche Mischung aus Kreativmethoden, Selbststudienzeit und Arbeit in Kleingruppen sowie Diskussionen im Plenum. Spielerische Elemente stehen dabei im Vordergrund.

Ca. eine Woche vor dem Workshop wird eine Mail mit Fragen an die Teilnehmenden geschickt werden. Die schriftliche Beantwortung dieser Fragen dient der inhaltlichen Vorbereitung und dauert ungefähr 30min. Diese Vorbereitung ist Teil des Workshops und essenziell für die Anerkennung.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore practical tools and moderation strategies to engage your students effectively, regardless of background, setting, or learning preferences.

Objectives and Content

This workshop provides practical tools and facilitation techniques to foster meaningful interaction – both in the classroom and in online learning environments. Participants will explore how to engage diverse student groups, accommodate different levels of prior knowledge, and strengthen their moderation skills to support active, student-centered learning.

Together, we will address key questions about facilitating interaction with and among students:

• How can I build trust to encourage student participation?
• How much time should I plan for interaction and collaboration phases?
• How do I guide discussions and provide feedback on student contributions?

Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to describe selected methods and facilitation techniques for interactive teaching and will have practiced applying them in a teaching scenario.

Digitale Tools bieten vielseitige Möglichkeiten, Lehrveranstaltungen attraktiver, interaktiver und flexibler zu gestalten. Doch welche digitalen Tools eignen sich für Ihre Lehrziele an der TU Hamburg?

Ziele und Inhalte

In diesem praxisorientierten Workshop lernen Sie bewährte digitale Werkzeuge kennen, die an der TU Hamburg bereits erfolgreich in der Lehre zum Einsatz kommen. Dabei werden auch die Chancen und Grenzen der Nutzung digitaler Tools in der Lehre herausgearbeitet.

 Der Workshop bietet eine Kombination aus kurzem Input, Praxisübungen und dem direkten Ausprobieren der Tools.

Lernziele

Nach dem Workshop können Sie: 

• an der TU Hamburg eingesetzte digitale Tools für die Lehre benennen und deren Einsatzmöglichkeiten einschätzen. 
• mit ausgewählten Tools selbstständig arbeiten und ggf.  erste Lehrmaterialien oder Online-Angebote erstellen. 
• Chancen und Grenzen digitaler Medien in der Hochschullehre reflektieren und kritisch bewerten.

Methoden

Der Workshop kombiniert kurze Vorträge mit praktischen Übungen in Gruppen und Einzelarbeit, um digitale Tools auszuprobieren. Der Austausch sowie Feedback- und Expertenrunden fördern den Lernprozess im Umgang mit digitalen Tools und unterstützen darin, individuelle Lösungen für die eigene Lehre zu entwickeln.

Was tun, wenn Studierende mit ihrer Abschlussarbeit nicht zurechtkommen? Wie können Sie in der Betreuung gut unterstützen? Wieviel Feedback sollten Studierende bekommen – und wie sieht am Ende eine gute Beurteilung einer Abschlussarbeit aus?

Ziele und Inhalte

Die Betreuung schriftlicher (Abschluss-)arbeiten stellt eine verantwortungsvolle und nicht ganz einfache Aufgabe dar. In diesem Workshop setzen wir uns daher mit Fragen und Herausforderungen im Betreuungsprozess auseinander. Ein weiterer Aspekt bildet die angemessene, nachvollziehbare und gerechte Bewertung. Folgende Fragen werden bearbeitet:

• Wer ist im Betreuungsprozess wofür verantwortlich?
• Wie gestalte ich den Umgang mit schwierigen Betreuungssituationen?
• Wie gebe ich gutes Feedback auf Texte?
• Wie gehe ich damit um, wenn Studierende KI für ihren Schreibprozess nutzen?
• Was sind geeignete Bewertungskriterien und Bewertungsraster für meine Fachdisziplin?

Lernziel

Am Ende des Workshops können Teilnehmende einschätzen, was Ihnen bei der Gestaltung des Betreuungsprozesses wichtig ist und wie sie mit herausfordernden Situationen umgehen. AI promises a boost at all levels of our existence. But what about teaching and learning in terms of creativity? Can AI provide good support here to make teaching more innovative and learners more creative? What experience do you have? Or is the opposite the case and history is simply constantly being repeated with no added value for our society? Where are the dangers or conflicts?

Objectives and contents

In this workshop, you will focus on tapping into your creativity and that of your students. You will learn techniques on how to increase creativity. You will discuss topics relating to creative teaching and consider the opportunities and risks for your field. You will complete small tasks in groups with the help of your creativity. You will be given lots of ideas and suggestions to enrich your teaching. We will address the following questions, among others:

• How is it possible to design teaching creatively?
• How can AI be used to make teaching innovative?
• How does AI help you to develop the creativity of your students?

Always available, self-study module, online, 1.5h-6h: Reflecting Contemporary Higher Education Pedagogy (Ulrike Bulmann) - bilingual – Total Amount: 1,5 to 6 hrs. possible

TU Hamburg offers attractive, high-impact teaching like research-based learning, challenge-based learning or artificial intelligence in courses. However, there are specific teaching approaches that are state-of-the art, well-grounded in research and practice, but unfortunately are not fully recognized nor widely implemented at TU Hamburg so far. Also, efficient (AI) tool trainings are provided for the community, but are barely recognized until now. Moreover, there are outstanding academics inspiring the field of Higher Education, but are too often unseen until now. And finally, there might be key approaches that came around your own corner (in each discipline) that you would like to share. Thus, it can be of great potential to draw attention on such contemporary pedagogical approaches, methods, tools and excellent teaching personalities and to reflect on potential implementations derived from such key concepts and thoughts in our university’s teaching and learning practices.

Goals and content

Based on state-of-the art research and community impulses (e.g. text, videos, podcasts, webinar recordings), we will address the following questions:

• Which contemporary impulses on approaches, methods, tools or personalities are of interest for you and why?
• What are your lessons-learnt about the new content (methods, tools, personalities)?
• How can you implement such teaching approaches, tools or key ideas into your own teaching?
• Which enablers does the university provide for that? Which hurdles can you overcome? Or: Are there serious hindering factors to implement that in your own teaching or at the TU Hamburg? What can you envision instead?

Learning objective

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to report on their selected contemporary teaching approaches, methods and tools relevant for integration into their own teaching.

Teaching methods

This workshop is offered as self-study module. Impulses are amended (e.g. from SEFI, University Future Festival, Tool Tip Tuesday, MMKH etc.) and provided as video recordings or podcasts via white board here (Name: Reflecting Contemporary Higher Education Pedagogy, Password:123456). Topics are upon selection by the participant only. It is mentioned how long it takes to get into each material (like 60 min). The reflection should contain the title of the impulse, conducted along guiding questions and submitted to ulrike.bulmann(at)tuhh.de (cc zll-workshops(at)tuhh.de) (30min). One small self-study time takes 1.5 hours (60 min impulse and 30 min reflection report, template will be provided) and is completed and acknowledged after submission of the report.
