The damage from ultra-low cycle fatigue (ULCF) can bring hazardous consequences to large structures like ships. To investigate this, we carried out a destructive cyclic bending test on a large box girder. The test shows the severe damage and post-damage behavior of the structure, including large plastic deformation and fracture, during extensive loads with hogging and sagging. The results provide experiences of large complex structures with existing damage after accidental loads. Moreover, considering the number of cycles in the test, this study can bridge the gap between monotonic overload and ultra-low cycle fatigue.
