The celebratory event took place in the presence of the Vice President for Research at TUHH, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Irina Smirnova, the spokesperson for the Cluster of Excellence "BlueMat," Prof. Dr. Patrick Huber, and numerous invited guests from across Hamburg.
The expansion and modernization of the BEEM with this specialized electron microscope was strongly advocated and supported by the TUHH Executive Board, particularly in light of the Collaborative Research Center 1615 "SMARTReactors" and the Cluster of Excellence "BlueMat." BEEM and seven institutes formulated and successfully submitted their research proposals for the DFG (German Research Foundation) grant application. The application was approved by the DFG reviewers in May 2023.
The EiREM (Electron Microscope Reactor) is centrally located at BEEM and is primarily managed by Dr. Gunnar Schaan. It is essentially a small research laboratory where a sample can be exposed to a wide variety of environmental conditions (pressure, atmospheric composition, and temperature) while simultaneously recording different electron signals and spectral data on a micro- and nanoscale.
