Last Wednesday, we were pleased to welcome Ludwig Deutsch from Miele as a guest speaker in our Innovation Marketing master’s course. His talk offered valuable insights into how a leading manufacturer integrates structured innovation into a traditionally product-focused industry. Ludwig presented Miele’s innovation strategy, centered on the guiding principle Immer besser ("Forever better") with a focus on customer experience, performance, sustainability, and employee engagement. Digitalization plays a key role, enabling smart products that reduce unnecessary user interaction and improve daily convenience. A highlight was Miele’s use of AI-powered user personas, developed from extensive customer data and used to explore unmet needs and guide product development. The session sparked engaging discussion around the role of AI, customer-centricity, and how structured innovation can drive value, even in established industries. A big thank you to Ludwig for the inspiring insights and for sharing his experience. We are looking forward to welcoming him back for future exchanges!

Update A short list has been compiled, taking the applicant's expertise and completeness of the application documents into account as well as equality aspects. Short-listed candidates have received an invitation to an interview.  Posting We are seeking a researcher working on an upcoming project focused on quantum benchmarking and quantum error correction. The research will contain rigorous mathematical analyses as well as proof-of-concept-type numerical demonstrations. It is part of a joint project with the quantum computing company Universal Quantum. Research The primary objective is to investigate the potential and limitations of quantum benchmarking methods for NISQ and early fault-tolerant devices. This includes gaining theoretical knowledge of various critical aspects of quantum computations and algorithms. This goal includes: Research of no-go results for quantum benchmarking. Develop benchmarking and noise characterization methods for early fault-tolerant quantum computers. A collaboration with the Hamburg quantum software team of Universal Quantum Your profile Good grades (PhD students) / excellent publications (postdocs) are expected. Completed scientific university studies, in particular in the subjects of Quantum Sciences, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or comparable. Advanced knowledge in at least one of the topics: quantum error correction, quantum algorithms, randomized measurements, and quantum system characterization (a.k.a. QCVV). Beneficial: Knowledge of group representation theory, probabilistic tail bounds, tensor networks, and programming skills We particularly encourage female candidates to apply.  We offer Full-time positions for a maximum of 3 years A salary based on the German TV-L E13 pay scale (salary before tax etc.) Excellent supervision and interdisciplinary exchange with the integration into an international research network in the quantum computing landscape.
