From 22 to 24 September 2026, our 8th International Seminar on Aerogels took place at Hamburg University of Technology.
We were honored to welcome more than 140 participants from all over the world in Hamburg to discuss aerogels. We want to thank all speakers, participants, industrial partners, youn researchers and supporters for attending the Seminar and for participating so actively throughout the programme. Special thanks go out to our three keynote speakers, Prof. Nadja Bigall from Hamburg University, Prof. Željko Tomović from Eindhoven University of Technology and Dr. Pavel Gurikov from Hamburg University of Technology. Their contributions set the tone for the high scientific level our Seminar is known for.
Once more, we were impressed by the contributions during the Industry Session, demonstrating how far aerogels have moved beyond the laboratory: companies from different parts of the world like IBIH Advanced Materials, Keey Aerogel, aerogel-it, Uhde High Pressure Technologies are scaling up production, developing new applications and bringing aerogel technologies into commercial use.
Just as impressive was the number of talented young scientists attending the conference. They are the future of our field and we are always happy hearing their new ideas.
Congratulations are going out to Frederike Knipp, who got to take home the Poster Prize for her work on the application of aerogels in ophthalmology with her poster titled “Translucent Agarose Aerogels as Novel Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering Applications in Ophthalmology”.
Another highlight was the Art–Science Exhibition “Materializing the Invisible” by Prof. Ioannis Michaloudis which beautifully connected aerogels with art, light and design.
We are already looking forward to welcoming the aerogel community again in 2028!
