Z1: Central Task of Collaborative Research Center SFB 986

The central project Z1 takes care of the administrative and organizational interests of SFB 986. Read more...

Z2: Investigation of multi-scale strutured materials system with synchrotron and neutron radiation

Non-destructive examination of newly developed materials is of central importance for the SFB. On the one hand, only the latest maximun-resolution characterization methods allow sufficient knowledge of the hierarchical structure. On the other hand, it will be essential to correlate the mechanical, electrical, and photonic properties of the different projects in-situ with structural changes. It is crucial that appropriate investigation methods are available for our range of different length scales (a few nm up to mm) in the various hierarchical levels of the materials systems in the SFB. Z3: Electron Microscopy of multi-scale Materials Systems

The production of multi-scale materials systems is one focus of the SFB 986. Another focus lies in the analysis and characterization of the newly acquired materials via scanning and transmission electron microscopy(SEM/TEM). The task and the purpose of the service project Z3 is to provide classic sample preparation methods as well as modern sample preparation by a focused ion beam(FIB) for electron microscopy.
