PAnwendung und Vergleich verschiedener Kontakttypen in Abaqus/Standard bzw. Explicit Numerikeha

B/PExperimental Investigation of the Effect of Lignite Particles on the Capillary Collapse of Granular SoilsExperimentallpj
This project focuses on the experimental investigation of the collapse potential in soils containing lignite particles. The objective is to assess whether these particles have a significant influence on the behaviour of partially saturated granular soils. The work involves conducting oedometric collapse tests. A background in soil mechanics and basic programming skills are required.

B/M/PDevelopment, Simulation, and Experimental Evaluation of Traction Control Strategies on the LeoRover Platform Using ROS and GazeboExperimentalfwr / rso
Mobile robots are often challenged by varying terrain, including loose gravel, sand, inclines, or wet surfaces, which can cause wheel slip that reduces speed, wastes energy, or even immobilizes the robot. Gazebo, integrated with ROS, is a widely used simulator that incorporates accurate physics (ODE/ODE-based contact, friction, and wheel slip), sensor noise models, and customizable terrains. The LeoRover is an open-source, educational robotic platform designed for mobile robotics research and teaching (see www.leorover.tech for details). This project leverages both Gazebo simulation and real-world experiments to develop a ROS-based framework for investigating traction control strategies.

B/PInfluence of specimen production on the determination of hypoplastic constitutive parametersdvd / lse
Results from laboratory tests such as oedometer and triaxial tests are used to calibrate the hypoplastic material model according to von Wolffersdorff. The type of sample production can significantly influence the test results and the material parameters derived from them. This bachelor's thesis aims to systematically investigate the influence of sample production. To this end, identical test series are conducted with conventionally produced samples and with samples installed using an air pluviation apparatus. Complete parameter sets for the hypoplastic model are then determined and compared with each other. The constitutive parameters obtained are then used as input data for numerical simulations of structure-soil interactions as part of project and master's theses.

P/MMultiphase LBM-DEM simulations of unsaturated materials: analyzing the influence of grain movement on pore space fluidComputational, programming: LBM, DEMcto
An inhouse c++ code was developed to conduct multiphase lattice Boltzmann (LBM) simulations, such as obtaining the soil water retention curve of a grain packing. The most recent added feature is coupling it with the discrete element method, in a way that the grains can move while the fluid in the pore space is simulated with the LBM. In this context, literature review on how to compute fluid and grain forces is required. After that, benchmark simulations are to be conducted to test this newly added feature. The required programming skills can be learned during the execution of the work.

P/MNumerical simulation of the installation effect of the rigid inclusionsNumericalpkr
Rigid inclusions are the ground improvement techniques opted mostly in problematic soils. Unlike piles, rigid inclusions are not directly connected to the superstructure. There exists a granular transfer layer which transfers the load from the superstructure and the reinforced soil beneath. Though numerous studies were carried out on the soils improved with rigid inclusions, the effect of the installation sequence of the rigid inclusion on the load carrying capacity of the improved soils is not studied yet. Hence, the project involves simulation of the installation effects of rigid inclusions in soft clay using FEM based software PLAXIS 3D. The installation effect is quantified in terms of load carrying capacity, arching in the load transfer layer and the surface settlement. The simulation for the installation effect will be provided. A parametric study has to be carried out to analyse the effect of various parameters on the installation effect and the load bearing capacity.

P/B/MPerformance analysis of rigid inclusion-reinforced soft clay beds using 1g experimental model testsExperimentalpkr
The experimental model studies offer significant potential for gaining insights into the behavior and performance of reinforced soft soils. This study intends to harness that capability of the 1g model studies to assess the performance of the soft clay improved with concrete rigid inclusions. The performance is analysed in terms of the stresses (soil pressure and the pore water pressure) developed in the system when loaded monotonically. The tests are to be carried out on clay beds of dimensions 900 mm * 900 mm * 600 mm. The experimental setup- including the test stand and necessary instrumentation is fully established. Furthermore, the material properties for both the clay and the piles have been comprehensively established. The project aims to carry out monotonic loading tests for various sequence of pile installation. A comparison has to be drawn from the results for different installation sequence and a conclusion on the optimum installation sequence has to be obtained as a part of the thesis.
