H5P (HTML5 Package) is free and open-source software that can be used to create interactive learning content for the web without any programming knowledge. The spectrum ranges from interactive videos and presentations to quizzes and cloze texts to timelines, memory games and drag-and-drop exercises. H5P content can be integrated into existing platforms such as ILIAS, WordPress or Moodle and can be used on all devices.
Stephanie Wichmann from the ZLL will be happy to advise you on the didactic use of the tool.
H5P is web-based and works with all common browsers – no software installation is
required. H5P requires a host system and can be integrated as a plugin into
platforms such as ILIAS, WordPress or Moodle. Alternatively, H5P content can be
created offline using the free desktop application Lumi and exported as an HTML file.
At the TUHH, H5P is integrated as a plugin in ILIAS.
The H5P software is free of charge and is licensed under the MIT licence. Use via platforms such as ILIAS or WordPress is also free of charge. The commercial hosting service H5P.com is subject to a fee after a 30-day trial period – however, this is not required for use at the TUHH.
GDPR-compliant Open Source RZ-Hosting
When integrated into the university's own systems (e.g. ILIAS), H5P content is processed and stored on the TUHH servers. The software itself does not collect any personal data. When using external platforms such as h5p.org or h5p.com, the data protection regulations of those platforms must be observed.
