Safety first!

Here you will find the most important safety precautions to observe when using the workshop. Detailed information on risk assessments, operating instructions, work instructions, and digital learning units is available in the WorkINGLab Wiki.

⚠ Important: The use of the WorkINGLab is only permitted after a safety briefing by the workshop manager on site. This briefing is mandatory and a prerequisite for the independent use of the workshop.

Hazards to humans and the environment
  • Being caught by the drive, spindle, tool, or workpiece due to hair, clothing, or jewelry.
  • Being hit by ejected workpieces, parts, chips, etc.
  • Cutting or pricking yourself on tools, workpieces, or chips.
  • Intensive skin contact with coolant/lubricant can destroy the skin’s natural acid mantle, causing degreasing, dehydration, and irritation (precursors to skin diseases).
  • Even minor skin injuries, e.g., from metal particles, increase the risk of skin diseases caused by coolant/lubricant exposure.
Protective measures and safety rules
  • Check the workstation for defects before starting work.
  • Follow the skin protection measures according to the skin protection plan.
  • Cover long hair with a cap, hairnet, or similar.
  • Wear close-fitting work clothing with cuffed sleeves; if necessary, roll sleeves inward.
  • Remove wristwatches, rings, bracelets, loose necklaces, ties, scarves, etc.
  • Do not wear gloves while milling.
  • Cover the milling tool with a safety guard to prevent accidental contact.
  • Wear safety goggles when using high-speed cutters or working with brittle materials.
  • Ensure that nearby workstations are not endangered by splashing coolant, flying chips, or long continuous chips (use protective covers).
  • Clamp the workpiece securely in the vice and remove the tightening wrench.
  • Switch off the machine before changing the workpiece, measuring, or cleaning.
  • Adjust the coolant supply so that only the working area is sprayed.
  • After use, switch off the machine and secure it against unauthorized operation.
  • Remove chips only with a rubber scraper, brush, or hand broom.
Behavior in case of malfunctions and emergencies
  • In case of damage or malfunction of the machine: switch it off and inform the supervisor.
  • Eliminate slipping hazards (e.g., caused by coolant or chips).
  • Repairs may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
Behavior in case of accidents – First aid
  • Switch off the machine.
  • Inform the first aider and the supervisor.
  • Attend to the injured person.
Maintenance, disposal
  • After completing the work, dispose of chips in the designated collection container.
  • Clean the machine at the end of the work.
  • Any damage to the machine may only be repaired by authorized personnel.
