Experience virtual product development. Understand methods. Design products of the future.
In the CAD&C - Computer Aided Design and Computation lecture series, you will learn how modern development processes can be improved through the use of digital methods, innovative tools and interdisciplinary collaboration. The focus is on the combination of system generation development (SGE), finite element methods (FEM) and topology optimization in theory and practice.
What makes CAD&C special?
You will learn about SGE, FEA and topology optimization using real examples and current software solutions such as Siemens NX.
Exercises, deep dives, guest lectures from industrywill give you concrete insights into real development processes.
Interdisciplinary structure: The module is jointly organized by three institutes of the TU Hamburg - each with its own thematic focus.

Structure of the module
Development result from the exercise of the last CAD&C round from the ISEM exercise
CAD&C consists of three parts, each of which is the responsibility of one institute:
1. System generation engineering (SGE)
Institute for Smart Engineering and Machine Elements (ISEM) Head: Prof. Nikola Bursac
Introduction to SGE as a methodological basis
Virtual product development with a focus on PLM systems
Modern data- and validation-driven, agile product development
Practical application of 3D CAD in Siemens NX
2. Finite Element Method (FEM)
Institute for Structural mechanics in lightweight design Head: Prof. Benedikt Kriegesmann
Mathematical basics of FEM
Modeling and analysis of mechanical structures
3. Topologyoptimization
Institute of Laser and System Technologies (iLAS) Head: Prof. Claus Emmelmann
Structural optimization under real boundary conditions
Methods for mass reduction and resource efficiency
Use of modern software tools for topology optimization
