IEEE PES ISGT EUROPE 2025 October 20th – 23rd 2025, Malta

Our team was represented by Marwan Mostafa (Research Associate and Ph.D. candidate), Merlin Engel (External Ph.D. candidate from Hamburger Energienetze GmbH), and Dr. Payam Teimourzadeh Baboli (Senior Scientist and Lecturer).

Mr. Mostafa presented “Unified Graph-Theoretic Modeling of Multi-Energy Flows in Distribution Systems”, which addresses the growing complexity of integrated multi energy systems by proposing a unified graph based framework for electricity, gas, and heat networks. The developed block-structured solver enables consistent multi-domain analysis, validated on a German real case study showing accurate and stable convergence across all energy carriers.

Mr. Engel presented “Harmonizing Distribution System Planning and the Operation of Integrated DC Systems”, motivated by the increasing need for flexibility in future distribution systems. The study demonstrated that integrating controllable DC links and co-optimizing their planning and operation can significantly reduce grid reinforcement requirements compared to conventional approaches.

Dr. Baboli chaired two sessions: SES-1.02: Load Frequency Control & Droop Optimization and SES-1.17: Frequency Response, Smart Grids & System Dynamics.

We thank all co-authors and collaborators, i.e., Prof. Dr. Christian Becker, Daniel Wenser, Johannes Heise, Hannes Newe, Dr. Davood Babazadeh for their valuable contributions. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to reconnect with many colleagues from our network and to exchange ideas with international experts in the field. Our sincere appreciation goes to the local organizer from University of Malta for hosting a well-organized and inspiring event.
