Ms. Tarannum Tabassum Islam
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a major in Water Resources Engineering from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (Dhaka, Bangladesh). After completing my BSc, I worked in the construction industry for a year as an Assistant Engineer. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, I joined a water consultancy firm in Dhaka, where I worked for one and a half years before moving to Europe to pursue my MSc. Professionally, I have experience in hydrology-related data analysis, mapping, and hydraulic design.
In 2022, I was awarded a fully funded Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to pursue the Joint Master's degree in Hydroinformatics and Water Management under the EuroAquae+ consortium, a collaborative programme involving five universities across Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Poland. My specialization focused on groundwater modelling and management at the Warsaw University of Technology. During the programme, I expanded my expertise in hydrology, hydrodynamics, GIS, programming, machine learning, climate-related water analysis, and flood inundation mapping. As part of my MSc thesis, I collaborated remotely with Deltares (Delft, Netherlands) to develop a Python-based pipeline for selecting representative years from long-term climate change scenarios for aquaculture applications in the North Sea.
Since July 2026, I have been working as a PhD candidate at the Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics, Hamburg University of Technology, as part of the CLICCS II project. My research focuses on hydroinformatics, climate change impacts, precipitation extremes, and, in particular, land degradation and the interactions among these processes. My current work aims to investigate the integration of meteorology, land degradation, and climate extremes under changing environmental conditions, and how data-driven methods and modelling tools can support the assessment of these impacts.
