Ms. Ghazal Piroozi

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Shiraz University in 2020 and then pursued a Master’s degree in Reservoir Engineering at the same institution. My Master’s thesis focused on investigating the impact of data size on the performance of machine learning (ML) models for predicting shear-wave velocity.

After completing my Master’s degree, I joined Nazarbayev University as a Research Assistant, where I had the opportunity to further develop my skills in data analysis and ML, particularly through my work on CO₂ and H₂ storage systems. During my final year at Nazarbayev University, I also worked on the application of ML models in the field of chemistry, particularly for lithium-ion batteries. I used ML models to investigate and predict the performance of battery-related materials and systems. In addition, I applied Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts of different materials and processes using SimaPro software.

In October 2026, I joined Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) as a PhD student in the Geo-Hydroinformatics group. My research focuses on modelling fluid flow in nanoporous materials using the Lattice Boltzmann method and ML. The overall goal of this project is to gain a better understanding of how properties such as wettability, permeability, and pore size distribution influence multiphase flow and transport processes in nanoporous materials.
