Mr. Sankeerth Govindaiah Narayanaswamy

I obtained my Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Civil Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering, India, in 2018. During my undergraduate studies, my research focused on soil stabilisation techniques using waste materials, extensive field surveying, and structural design. In 2024, I completed my MSc in Environmental Engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), where my master's thesis addressed the distribution and impacts of small agricultural reservoirs in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, utilising remote sensing and hydrological modelling techniques.

Throughout my studies and research roles at TUHH, I have gained extensive expertise in remote sensing, GIS analysis, hydrological modelling, and environmental data analysis. My experience as a research assistant at the Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics and the Institute of Wastewater Management and Water Protection allowed me to engage in interdisciplinary projects related to sustainable agriculture, water management, and environmental protection.

In 2024, I began my PhD at the Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics at TUHH. My current research focuses on identifying and characterising small agricultural reservoirs globally using high-resolution satellite imagery from Sentinel 1 and Sentinel 2. By employing advanced machine learning algorithms, I aim to accurately map the spatial and temporal dynamics of these reservoirs and estimate their surface water storage capacity. This research provides essential insights into global surface water distribution, enhancing our understanding of water budgeting and management, especially in water-stressed regions. I am deeply passionate about leveraging innovative geospatial technologies to address global water resource challenges.
