CRC SMART Reactors at BioCheMEET 2024

Our CRC team presented two posters at this year’s BioCheMEET conference, chaired by Prof. Dr. Johannes Gescher and hosted by Gescher's Lab of Technical Microbiology at TUHH, focusing on latest research in microbial extracellular electron transfer.

Sri Sannita Chavali showcased her work on tailored functional electrode structures for SMART bioreactors, exploring the development of custom-made electrodes to support hydrogenotrophic biofilms in continuous biotechnological processes to enhance biovolume and electrochemical activity. 

Meanwhile, Vivien Jesenofsky is advancing sustainable biotransformation through SMART continuous bioelectrochemical processes, pushing the boundaries of sustainability by optimizing bioelectrochemical systems for the biotransformation of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol by Cupriavidus necator.

Additional CRC support was given by Dr. Miriam Edel, who joined the conference and contributed valuable insights to the discussions.
