The APPLICATION for seed funding for ECIU@TUHH Micromodule 2025/26 is open!

"Hamburg University of Technology (TU Hamburg) is a place of education. Those who study with us prepare for the challenges of the future and learn to broaden the horizons of technology, science, and society."

This is how the mission statement of TU Hamburg for teaching begins. Activating learning formats as well as international and interdisciplinary courses at TU Hamburg are a promising and innovative approach to bringing this mission statement to life in study and teaching. Since 2019, several instructors at TU Hamburg have been experimenting with pilot projects initiated by ECIU University. Innovations and the testing of new formats and processes are essential to implement the mission statement and the vision of ECIU University— to which TU Hamburg is also committed— and to support their sustainable integration at TU Hamburg.

This call for proposals offers you, the lecturers of TU Hamburg, the opportunity to apply for financial support to open your courses to students of ECIU partners as ECIU Micromodules and to further develop your course with a new or expanded focus on interdisciplinarity or internationality.

The implementation of an ECIU@TUHH Micromodule is funded with up to a maximum of €3,000. Only the actual costs will be funded, not as a lump sum. In this fourth call within the ECIUn+ funding period, only the implementation of micromodules can be supported, not challenges.

The aim of this call for proposals is to support the further development of existing courses into innovative international and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

For courses in Winter Semester 2025/26 and Summer Semester 2026, there are three submission deadlines with corresponding implementation periods:

  • October 13, 2025 → implementation between CW 51 in 2025 and CW 15 in 2026

  • December 5, 2025 → implementation between CW 06 and CW 21 in 2026

  • February 6, 2026 → implementation between CW 15 and CW 36 in 2026

Please use the application form.

If you have questions or would like advice, please contact Dr. Dorothea Ellinger at eciu(at)tuhh.de.

Criteria for Funding

The aim of this call for proposals is to support the further development of existing courses into innovative international and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. To achieve this goal, this call is aimed at courses regardless of their didactic format, provided they meet the following conditions:

  • Part of an existing module

  • Intended exclusively for Master’s students

  • Taught entirely in English, including all teaching materials

  • Carry a workload of 1–3 ECTS

  • Delivered in a hybrid or fully online format (with at least 55% synchronous sessions)

Newly appointed professors may also apply with a course that is yet to be planned. Courses that are prepared and delivered in collaboration with ECIU partners are given priority for funding, although collaboration is not a requirement. A list of ECIU partners can be found here.

To receive funding, an application must demonstrate that, in addition to the above requirements, the following criteria can also be met:

  • At least 10 places are made available for students from ECIU partner universities, in addition to TU Hamburg students (according to the presidential resolution of September 13, 2023, the total number of participating students from TU Hamburg and ECIU partners must be 10 or more to count towards teaching load recognition)

  • The didactic design enables the acquisition of interdisciplinary or international competencies

  • The didactic design follows the principles of activating, student-centered learning

Furthermore, funding is associated with the following expectations:

  • Experiences from the implementation of the funded course should be presented either as a poster at the I3ProTeachING final event or at teaching innovation conferences (e.g., ECIU Forum, TURN Conference)

  • Applicants should be willing to share results within the ECIU teaching community (e.g., at ECIU Lunch&Learn, ECIU Tea(m)cher Kick-Off, or ECIU@TUHH workshops by and for instructors)

If a micromodule is conducted in collaboration with two other ECIU partners as a Blended Intensive Program (BIP), the host university can receive up to an additional €6,000 from ERASMUS+ for implementation. Active participation of the applicant in formal BIP processes is essential. The International Office and the ECIU@TUHH team provide support in this process.
