Inauguration of new Agile Design Lab

Hands-on research and learning—try it out for yourself

The lab is jointly run by the Institute for Organizational Design and Collaboration Engineering (ODCE) and the Institute for Smart Engineering and Machine Elements (ISEM)

The new Agile Design Lab (ADL) was officially opened with a grand opening ceremony. Prof. Timm-Giel, president of the TUHH, welcomed the invited guests who had gathered at the Palmspeicher in Harburg Harbor.

Two institutes under one roof - the Institute for Smart Engineering and Machine Elements (ISEM) and the Institute for Organizational Design and Collaboration Engineering (ODCE) - have created a modern work and research environment here.

In his speech, Tim Schweisfurth explained the different research approaches that are being brought together here:

ISEM conducts research on smart, human-centered product development, while the ODCE Institute studies the behavior of innovation processes. Both institutes are working on the design of sustainable products and on how to measure and improve the behavior of developers.

Teaching is also being reimagined here:

In the courses, students can put ideas into practice and actually build things. Economics courses are directly integrated with engineering. Interested industry partners are also invited to help convey the practical relevance. Students go through problem exploration, product planning, and prototyping using laser cutters and 3D printing, and finally present their work in a pitch to an audience.

Tim Schweisfurth emphasized that establishing the ADL would not have been possible without the support of the TUHH Executive Board and the sponsors. He thanked the Executive Board and his main sponsor, Mr. Christoph Birkel.

Afterward, the red ribbon was cut with large scissors, and the ADL was officially declared open.
