How can humanoid robots be integrated into industrial production,
and where does their real potential lie?
These questions were at the center of “The Future of Production: How Humanoid Robotics Is Revolutionizing Our Economy”, an event organized by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce together with Hamburg University of Technology as part of the “Future Technologies for Hamburg” series.
Beyond technological progress itself, the event focused on how current research can be transferred into concrete industrial applications. The direct exchange between research and industry provided an ideal setting for this discussion.
In his keynote on “Humanoid Robotics and Embodied AI”, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Schüppstuhl discussed the potential role of humanoid systems in future production environments – as well as the technological challenges that still need to be addressed.
💡 His key message: humanoid robots may reveal their greatest potential in manufacturing environments characterized by human-centered processes, limited control and high task variety – with aircraft production being a prime example.
🧪 We also made this perspective tangible: In a live demonstration, Keno Moenck, Philipp Prünte and Jonathan Determann presented our humanoid robot and operated the system via teleoperation, giving participants a direct impression of its interaction and movement capabilities.
Further perspectives on the future of production were provided by our TU Hamburg colleagues from ITL, ISEM and IDAC.
Many thanks to the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce for organizing the event and providing a platform for this exchange, and to all participants and guests for the valuable discussions across research, industry and practice.
