The Institute of Aircraft Production Technology at the TUHH offers the essential courses in the field of production automation. The courses are mainly aimed at prospective mechanical engineers.

In the Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, this primarily includes the lecture "Introduction to Machine Tools", while in the Master's degree the "Fundamentals of handling and Assembly Technology" as well as the " "Production Automation" can be mentioned.

In addition to classic lectures, the institute also offers application-oriented formats. This includes "Applied Automation Technology", which is designed as a PBL course, as well as participation in laboratories, seminars and projects such as measurement, control and regulation, construction, materials and production as well as the first semester project.

In addition, the IFPT supports design theory by taking responsibility for the design theory exam and for the design project.
