The resilience of water supply systems in Europe is becoming increasingly important due to climate change, demographic shifts, and industrial factors. One key measure to ensure a resilient drinking water supply is the use and maintenance of interconnected and emergency supply lines. The interconnection of infrastructures is explicitly addressed in national water strategies. However, discussions with various water suppliers have revealed a lack of practical experience and comprehensive guidelines for the operation of such interconnecting lines.
Methodology
Within this project we evaluate the consequences when different water qualities mix. There could be redissolution leading to coloured water, changes in corrosion behaviour or regrowth of microorganisms due to availability of nutrients. These effects will be analyzed by sampling stagnation water and by laboratory tests.
