As part of a collaboration between the Federal Institute of Hydraulic Engineering (BAW) and the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), the “SeegangKüste” project is investigating the effects of sea state in the German Bight and the adjacent estuaries. The project builds, amongst other things, on experience gained in hydrodynamic modelling and sea state modelling within the EasyGSH project.

Against the backdrop of changing water levels and weather conditions resulting from climate change, the project aims to evaluate the current state of knowledge, develop a coupled numerical modelling system for hydrodynamics and wave action, and analyse specific questions regarding the effects of anthropogenic measures and climate change-induced alterations on wave action. A further focus is the investigation and assessment of the potential influence of sea state on sediment transport in the mudflats and shallow waters of the German Bight, in order to support future engineering decisions in coastal areas.
